Local Resources

How resilient is the Aurland valley?

What would happen if the daily/weekly supply of resources to the valley did not occur?

This exercise is about getting as much data as possible about what's available in the region. We'll start by defining the size of the  region, after which we try to do as exact an inventory as possible through interviews with local business owners, a survey to a representative group of residents which will indicate shopping patterns, level of production of own vegetables, fruit and meat, as well as their means of heating and power consumption. Significantly we'll look at SJH's shopping data.

We will also try to map out the craft and skills available; anything from the blacksmith, grain mill(?) to the dentist. This mapping could include available food production technology and storage capacity.

As part of the above research we're in effect mapping the dietary preference of the valley. To complement this we'll try to get reliable demographic data, and compare them with nutritional guidelines to find out if it would be possible at all to become self-reliant within the valley. At least it will serve to indicate which areas to prioritize in our quest of creating resilience.

All of this data will be gathered by Vg2 Social Science students and be made available to respondents and members of the town hall in a Google spreadsheet. The process of researching a target group is a valuable experience for any entrepreneur, and the data will define the extend of the further initiatives proposed on this site.
